چکیده

In this article we propose a structured IIR model for HRTF filters that can be applied to multi-user binaural soundscape rendering of virtual sound sources moving continuously in 3D space. A motivation for using low-order IIR models in HRTF interpolation is to trade some reasonable amount of soundscape fidelity for computational performance. Two strategies for interpolation of these IIRmodels are discussed, one using filter coefficients and the other using pole-zero models. Numerical experiments show that low-order structured IIR models provide reasonably good fitting of the original filters, allow for a larger number of simultaneous simulations than FIR equivalents, and may be used in an interpolation context without severely degrading the quality of the soundscape approximations.

Sound Field Analysis Along a Circle and its Applications to HRTFs Interpolation

In this paper, we are discussing the sampling and interpolation of the sound field in two and three dimensions along a circle. The Fourier domain representation of the sound field is used and an angular sampling theorem is developed for the sampling of the sound field along a circle. Based on these results, HRTF sampling and interpolation are discussed. As recently presented in [2], HRTF interp...

Computation of the head-related transfer function via the fast multipole accelerated boundary element method and its spherical harmonic representation.

The head-related transfer function (HRTF) is computed using the fast multipole accelerated boundary element method. For efficiency, the HRTF is computed using the reciprocity principle by placing a source at the ear and computing its field. Analysis is presented to modify the boundary value problem accordingly. To compute the HRTF corresponding to different ranges via a single computation, a co...

Simply Realization of Sound Localization Using HRTF Approximated by IIR Filter

HRTFs (head-related transfer functions) are available for sound field reproduction with spatial fidelity, since HRTFs involve the acoustic cues such as interaural time difference, interaural intensity difference and spectral cues that are used for the perception of the location of a sound image. Generally, FIR filters are used in the simulation of HRTFs. However, this method is not useful for a...

Interpolation and Range Extrapolation of Hrtfs

The Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) characterizes the scattering properties of a person’s anatomy (especially the pinnae, head and torso), and exhibits considerable person-to-person variability. It is usually measured as a part of a tedious experiment, and this leads to the function being sampled at a few angular locations. When the HRTF is needed at intermediate angles its value must be ...
